Canada Express Entry — How It Works

Canada Express Entry is a points-based immigration system managing three programs: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). IRCC holds regular draws, inviting candidates with the highest CRS scores to apply for permanent residence.

Step 1 — Check eligibility: You need at least 1 year of skilled work experience (NOC TEER 0/1/2/3), a language test (IELTS, CELPIP or TEF Canada), and a foreign credential assessment (ECA) for non-Canadian degrees.

Step 2 — Create your Express Entry profile: Enter your details at IRCC's online portal. Your CRS score is calculated automatically and you enter the candidate pool.

Step 3 — Get invited: IRCC holds draws every 2–4 weeks, inviting candidates above the cut-off CRS score. You receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) valid for 60 days.

Step 4 — Submit PR application: Submit your full permanent residence application with supporting documents. If approved, you become a Canadian Permanent Resident.
